Wash Plant Water Demand Calculator
Water and slurry flow for washing a given solids feed, from percent solids and material specific gravity.
Result
— GPM
of water demand
Slurry flow— GPM
Slurry— TPH
Slurry specific gravity—
Method
Water = (solids ÷ %solids − solids) × 4 = 600 GPM
Slurry calculation per the Astec/Telsmith Mineral Processing Handbook: a ton of water is about 240 gallons, so 1 TPH of water is 4 GPM; solids flow is 4 ÷ SG gallons per ton. Slurry SG = slurry TPH × 4 ÷ slurry GPM. Planning estimate; spray and screen-rinse demands add to this.
Inputs
dry tons/hour to the wash plant
40% by weight
Wash plants commonly run 30 to 50 percent solids
2.65
Sand and crushed stone are about 2.65
