Match the idler, not just the width

A conveyor idler is fully described by five things: CEMA class, roll diameter, trough angle, style and belt width. Every product here carries all five as filters, and the designation in the product title encodes them, so you can either filter down from what the idler does or search the designation stamped on your frame tag directly.

Carry side idlers support the loaded belt: equal troughing for the run of the conveyor, impact idlers with cushion rolls under the loading zone, and self-aligning idlers where the belt wanders. The return side runs the empty belt: straight steel returns, rubber disc returns where sticky carryback builds up, urethane returns for the worst buildup, and V returns on wide belts.

Common questions

How do I read a designation like B4-20E-36?

The letter is the CEMA class (B or C), the first digit is the roll diameter in inches, the next number is the trough angle, the letter after it is the style (E equal troughing, EI impact, EA self-aligning, RET return), and the final number is the belt width in inches. So B4-20E-36 is a CEMA B troughing idler with 4 inch rolls at 20 degrees for a 36 inch belt.

What CEMA class do I need?

Match what the conveyor was built with. CEMA B covers most portable and light plant conveyors up to about 36 inch belts. CEMA C uses heavier shells, shafts and bearings for quarry duty and wider belts. If the old idler is gone, the belt width and the frame bolt pattern narrow it down fast.

Which trough angle do I have?

Look at the wing roll angle on any surviving carry idler, or check the conveyor spec sheet. 35 degrees is the most common on aggregate conveyors; 20 degrees shows up on older and shorter conveyors. The angle must match the rest of the run or the belt will not seat properly.

Do you sell replacement rolls only?

The listings here are complete idlers, frame and rolls. If you only need rolls for an existing frame, send the designation from the frame tag through the contact page and we will quote the rolls.

Which belt fastener do I need?

The 375X bolt hinged system handles belts rated to 190 PIW and 1/4 to 13/32 inch thick. The 550 steps up to 300 PIW and 5/8 inch thickness. Both come as complete kits by belt width, with nylon covered, bare steel or stainless cable options, and the punch, boring bit and wrench are listed with them.
