The deal. On Tuesday Metso agreed to buy Italbronze, a 67-year-old maker of bronze alloy wear and spare parts near São Paulo and its supplier for more than 30 years.

The numbers. About 470 people will join Metso. The deal should close by the end of 2026, and the price was not disclosed.

Why it matters. Owning the foundry gives Metso its own source of bronze crusher parts, which it says secures supply and delivery for customers.

Four crushing-circuit rules from McLanahan's mining engineers

  1. Every pass through a crusher makes fines. Screen out what is already at size before each stage.
  2. Plan on about four to one reduction per stage. Push harder and the tonnage drops.
  3. Two stages suits plants up to about 600 tph. At 1,200 to 1,500 tph, go to three.
  4. Leave room in the layout for a third stage and a screen you may add later.
